Daily Kos Limerick Challenge: Help Morgan County Colorado!

Thu Jun 14, 2007 at 12:22:08 PM PDT

I have a fun challenge for the Daily Kos community today! If you are funny, punny or otherwise gifted in the ways of word and rhyme; this is your day!

I need a poem, preferably a Limerick, though any funny verse would do to honor a retiring county chair in Morgan county, Colorado. After suffering through an evening of semi-drunken event planning with our executive committee (and some unbelievably bad poetry), I floated the idea of opening it up to ya'll. They agreed, so here I am.

Follow me, and I'll tell you all about it.....

URGENT! Republicans once again attack civil rights of Head Start Teachers and Staff!

Tue Apr 24, 2007 at 12:29:11 PM PDT

The House is expected to take up Head Start Reauthorization (H.R. 1429) this week.
Republicans will once again try to add language to the Head Start bill allowing faith based or church affiliated Head Start programs to discriminate in their hiring practices based on an employee’s religion.

Follow me to find out what you can do to help.....

Mr. Rove, you just fucked with the wrong liberal. (w/ poll)

Sat Jun 25, 2005 at 01:33:31 PM PDT

Dear Mr. Rove, (any trolls from Free Republic or LGF can feel free to pass this on.)

It occurs to me that you, and others of your ilk have begun to believe your own ridiculous characterizations of liberals as wimps. As one of the aforementioned liberals, I can assure you, nothing could be further from the truth.

I looked up the legal definition of Defamation of Character. That definition is: "written or spoken injury to a person or organization's reputation."

On Monday morning, it is my intent to contact lawyers with the Anti-Defamation League and the ACLU to file a lawsuit against Karl Rove.

join me, after the jump...

I'm running for Congress!

Mon Jan 31, 2005 at 09:53:52 PM PDT

I'm heading out of Tennessee. It's a beautiful state, like the weather, the progressives here are smart and hard-core. They've welcomed me in and encouraged me to do something BIG!

If these smart, funny, great people think I can do it, who am I to say otherwise?

Fiesty Dems have an opportunity!

Mon Jan 31, 2005 at 09:05:54 PM PDT

The Democrats of both houses should introduce very specific legislation regarding the lack of incentive American taxpapers get for funding their medical insurance premiums. They should say that if the people are to be impacted by such a thing, it would be better for Congress to try it out for a while. A dry run, if you will.

As an employer of Congress, their employee reviews stink! They've gotten some stupid notion that the money we take out of our paychecks to pay their ever-increasing salaries and handsome benefit packages is something to which they are entitled! (WRONG)

Letters to Congresspersons/Senators

Thu Jan 06, 2005 at 12:55:15 PM PDT

We have one opportunity to frame this election reform debate publicly.

I propose that each of us within our individual states and districts write letters to our representatives and senators, especially those who spoke against the challenge.

Uncommon Good Sense

Fri Dec 03, 2004 at 09:46:57 AM PDT

Since the election, the democratic party and progressives have engaged in debate over focus, frames and fundamental ideology.

What we seek, can be found not by re-inventing the wheel, but by turning our attention to our history books. The writings of Thomas Paine, and their distribution can serve as our playbook. His writings were simple enough to stir the emotions of peasant farmers and complex enough to incite the intellect of the educated elite.

Though I'll argue that sense is hardly a common attribute in our age, uncommon good sense is what separates us from the extremists who've hijacked our country.

Adopt an Alternative Lifestyle, my policy of non-compliance

Thu Dec 02, 2004 at 08:39:26 AM PDT

To quote James Carville, I've had enough! As far as know, this is still my country too. The only mandate any president has, is to uphold and defend the Constitution of this country and I am willing to fight any person who tries to say otherwise. I'm done being bullied and I hope you are too. As of today, I'm adopting a policy of non-compliance.

Not one more inch, not one more minute. If the "values voters" and greedy thugs are going to take this country and turn it into a corporate fascist hell, they'll do it over my loud and continuous objection. I'm going to make them earn it! If it worked for Ghandi, why not us?

This won't be here long

Thu Nov 25, 2004 at 09:53:38 PM PDT

Can anyone help me? I've been lurking for several months, just started posting recently. I'm having a little trouble "getting" this rating system thing. I looked in the FAQ's and couldn't find what I wanted. I got blasted for "troll rating" someone (I didn't mean to do that) and I'm not sure what this (none/1) means. What are those (each part, if you don't mind.)
I appreciate the help, thanks.

Does anyone know

Wed Nov 17, 2004 at 03:44:59 PM PDT

how a citizen or group of citizens can be granted permission to address Congress?

I work, my husband works. We pay taxes. Our taxes go to pay the salaries of people who are supposed to work for us. They are elected to represent our interests. They are being paid with MY MONEY, AND YOURS!!! Truthfully, I think  they suck at their jobs. If I sucked at my job, I'd be fired. If they are going to engage in "party politics", then perhaps they should be paid by their parties.

I'm one person, I've not achieved anything great or impressive, yet I know that I could find reasonable solutions to problems facing American citizens and I don't want to pay people who can't or won't do a better job than I could!
They work for me, not the other way around.

I'm looking for a way to tell them so, and I'd like other people to join me.

Can this be done?

What is Worth Dying For?

Mon Nov 15, 2004 at 11:32:50 AM PDT

A question has begun to haunt me, peaceful sleep is a thing of the past. What I see before me is not what I counted on when I was younger. All the things that used to be important to me, aren't. The question that no one seems willing to ask is this:
What is worth dying for?
Many before us knew the answer. The "founding fathers" knew it. Ghandi knew it. Dr. King, union leaders, Wolenza, the IRA, feudal peasants, they all knew. Jesus knew too. We may be called, sooner than we'd like to answer for ourselves...is it freedom? Is it worker's rights? Independent thought? Future generations? I don't know the answer, but I think the question is worth asking...

Nationwide Petition

Sun Nov 14, 2004 at 01:06:22 PM PDT

I'm thinking gather signatures within each state, then present them to the Senators...I'm thinking something alont the lines of:

We, United States constituents from the state of __, do hereby request:

  1. Nationally recognized standards for voting practices including but not limited to; handling of provisional ballots, absentee ballots, counting and recounting of ballots, rules regarding voter eligibility and voter registration.

  2. These standards should be transparent, auditable, and carried out by non-partisan officials.

  3. Voting equipment should provide voter-verified paper receipts an must use open source code. All equipment purchased should have to be certified by an independent, non-partisan authority.

  4. All instances of voter intimidation and/or suppression should be investigated and those suspected should be charged and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

What Ever Will We Do About Dobson?

Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 06:39:01 PM PDT

If there is one thing that we can and must do, it is TAKE OUT JAMES DOBSON!!! This man is nothing less than an evil-doer. Lakoff refers to the whole right wing movement as based on the principles of Dobson! He is stealthy, intelligent, and downright mean. Any man with this much obsession about what people do in their bedrooms and with their children MUST have a skeleton. All these mad skills are going to waste if we don't find and exploit his weaknesses! Any suggestions?
P.S. Be kind, this is my first ever diary.
